Although born in New York City, Joy-Ann grew up in Denver, Colorado, where she attended high school. After matriculation, she enrolled at Harvard University, studying documentary filmmaking in the Visual and Environmental Studies department.
Before launching a career as a journalist, Joy-Ann worked at a business consulting firm, but then in 1997 joined WSVN Channel 7 to work as a host of its morning show. Several years later, Joy-Ann became a Knight Center for Specialized Journalism fellow, thanks to her devotion and success.
In 2006, Joy-Ann was appointed as co-host of “Wake Up South Florida”, which is a WTPS morning radio talk show. She remained co-host with James T. Thomas until 2007, and then in February 2014, she started hosting “The Reid Report”, her own news show, which lasted for a year when it was canceled, but Joy-Ann was appointed as a correspondent for MSNBC.
